What is the role of aunts and uncles in a kid’s life? Well, a recent Wall Street Journal article wants you to know that they are “valued mentors, nonjudgmental listeners—and a whole lot of fun”.

Titled “How to Become the Favorite Aunt or Uncle”, the article then proceeds to provide helpful tips to these family members on how to connect with the young kids. The author wrotes “It can be hard or even impossible to show up regularly when your niece or nephew live far away, but there are certainly ways to show, “Hey, I’m thinking about you.””

It is important for more non-parent adults to be available in the lives of their nieces and nephews.  In a study published in the Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry, and Allied Disciplines, it was noted that “Aunts and uncles can help to buffer the effects of stress and adversity in children’s lives.” The benefits of the strong family relationships can also benefit parents by providing emotional support, reducing stress and improving satisfaction with parenting.

All in all, Kaboo celebrates the importance of social networks in children and adults’ lives.
